Snuggled in a warm home with my loving hubby, a glowing fireplace, and two sleepy kitties while listening to the whipping wind outside is how I would be completely content to spend the next 3 months.

Sigh…

Ok, back to reality: it’s after the holidays, a new year, cold weather to trudge through, blah, blah, blah. Yuck.

A tidbit I’d read somewhere stated that if you viewed one picture or video of a cute animal during your day, your spirit was inevitably lifted. Here is my contribution to your day. And mine: a very happy pup!

A fleeting memory, sketched as quickly as the season has passed.

The golds and purples of autumn are here, flowing over mature brambles, climbing stalks grown strong.

The gray skies slip past, a background to emphasize the bright colors of the land.

Leaves turn sleepy, curling up, preparing to drop onto a bed thick with summer's sod.

Time to slow down, to enjoy the few weeks that remain of the year 2012.

Spent a little too much time yesterday playing with the Paint program on the computer. Not that any of them took more than 20 minutes, but they were fun to create. Learned a few small things as I went along that should help when I take on a more serious digital piece.

Last autumn (October 2010), Mike took his camera out to try to capture some of the remaining foliage on the shores of nearby Lake Ontario. The last several years, he'd become accustomed to using a digital camera, but wanted to try this venture with his new-ish 35mm.

What he found difficult, after all these years with instant results, was figuring out if he'd gotten the shot he'd wanted. Despite having taken film photographs for decades prior, it was alien returning to the form.

He was disappointed with the results. The day was beautiful but the foliage color was on the dim side, which, in truth was the only problem I could find with his photos. The composition was still excellent, the subject beautiful.

My motivation for using this photo for a 20-minute painting was to demonstrate to him how well his composition translates to others.

Personally, I'm pleased with the piece. Just as I was with his original photograph.
